Turtle Tots Ireland Autism Swim Classes
Turtle Tots group Autism classes for children aged 2-6 years old are spreading around Ireland.
Our programme has been designed specifically to tailor our Unique and Fun Swim programme for children with Autism. We run smaller classes of up to 6, to ensure all our children get personal attention whist also benefiting from a group environment and class.
Our classes are split into 4 age groups 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 & 5-6 and parents are in the pool with their children.
All our teachers are experienced Turtle Tots Teachers and are specially training and continuously upskilled to ensure they move with the latest tools and activities to help everyone in their class.
We have been running our Group Autism Swim classes in Club Vitae Gym in The Maldron Hotel Tallaght since 2018 and are now delighted to have classes in Dublin, Wexford, Mayo, Galway, and Cork.
A Brief Note from our Aquatics manager Audrey Brown on the benefits of our specialized Autism group swim classes
“There are so many benefits to swimming for children with autism . . . it positively impacts on their sleep, motor skills and eating,” I can’t begin to explain my passion for it now that I really understand the benefits of it. The water is also therapeutic, and it gives the parents a chance to relax too. Our parent gets into the water with each child and it’s nice for them to have this one-to-one time that’s not schooling or occupational therapy. It’s time out for parents and they get to meet other parents.
Water safety is a concern for many parents of children with autism, some Children with Autism wouldn’t understand water or the dangers of it, but the classes give him swimming skills and extra support for when in water,” Audrey said.
“Some parents were nervous before the classes, but now, after only four weeks, we have one child just about ready to swim on his own and all the kids are starting to see their place in the water.
“The hope is that we will send children off with a better understanding of water.”
